A stay in the countryside near the sea

Ideally located in the natural park of the Cotentin and Bessin marshes, the lodgings of Mestry's priory allow you to visit this beautiful part of Normandy.

The Bessin is of course, the place of Allies landing in June 6th 1944. It is also a landscape of groves, marshes, where it is good to walk, on foot, on horseback or by bike. You can also enjoy the small fishing ports, and long white sand beaches, for lazing or swimming. It is also a land of history, fortified farms, castles and medieval towns, to be visited without moderation! Finally, this agricultural territory is a promess of excellent products to be tasted by gourmets.

A few minutes by car from the lodges of Mestry, the Pointe du Hoc is an emblematic landing site

Omaha Beach memorial museum

15 minutes from our lodgings, located on the very site of the landing of June 6, 1944, 200 m from Omaha beach, the Omaha Beach Memorial Museum was created to perpetuate and preserve the memory of all these young soldiers who died in 1944.

Memorial  de Caen

Museum located in the city of Caen dedicated to the history of the 20th century: the landing, the Battle of Normandy, the Cold War, etc.

Normandy American cemetery 

In Colleville-sur-mer, it overlooks Omaha beach. The German cemetery is a few minutes away, in the nearby village of La Combe.




Sainte Mère Église et Utah Beach 

This is the westernmost beach of the landing zones.
The landing museum is located on the very spot where the American troops landed.

Bayeux

Visit the heart of the city, the magnificent cathedral, and of course the Bayeux tapestry, known as the tapestry of Queen Mathilde.
Bayeux is also a commercial city punctuated with terraces where it is good to have a drink and taste the local specialities.

Le mont Saint-Michel

Located an hour and a half drive from Mestry.

Caen

The city with 100 steeples, the men's abbey, the ladies' abbey, the castle of William the Conqueror, the memorial museum, Caen is 45 minutes from Mestry and is worth a visit.

Les jardins

The gardens of the Dior museum in Granville, the gardens of the castle of Saint Gabriel Brecy, the gardens of Elle, the gardens of Castillon, the marshes of Bessin will delight lovers of remarkable gardens.

Ballades à vélo

The "velomaritime" links Roscoff to Dunkirk over nearly 1,500 km. Very close to our lodgings is the Aure-sur-mer and Isigny-sur-Mer or Colleville-sur-Mer and Port-en-Bessin portion. Fat bike rental possible on Omaha beach.

Plages et loisirs balnéaires 

There are many water sports on the very large beach of Omaha: sand yachting, catamarans, kite rental, yoga... There is something for everyone.

Ballades en forêt 

15 km hike on the GR223 in the Cerisy forest, 2000 ha mainly of beech trees.
Marked trails, loops and mountain bike circuits.

Parc des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin

Remarkable natural space. You can also discover the fauna and flora of the marshes by kayak.

Promenades gourmandes

The region is rich in specialties: cider, calvados, scallops, oysters from the bay of Veys (possible visits to the parks), caramels and butter from Isigny...
